We did it! On January 21, over 5 million of us worldwide, and over 100,000 in London, came to march, speak and make our voices heard. But it doesn’t end here - now is not the time to hang up our marching shoes - it’s time to get our friends, family and community together and make history.
Every 10 days, over the next 100, we will take action on an issue we all care about, STARTING TODAY.
#VOTEAGAINSTHATEStand In Solidarity with Women's March Amsterdam
In Solidarity with Women's March Amsterdam
On January 21, we marched in solidarity with our sisters and their allies around the World. In the process we built a Global movement where, when one of our sister marches ask us to have their backs, we show up.
This Friday March 10, we stand with Women’s March Amsterdam.
On March 15, the Netherlands holds a Parliamentary election and recent polls suggest that the Freedom Party (PVV), led by the anti-Islam convicted racist Geert Wilders, will receive the largest share of the vote. Wilders was found guilty last December of inciting discrimination against Dutch Moroccans. The Freedom Party platform largely focuses on anti-Muslim measures such as closing Mosques and barring Muslim migrants. It also pledges to withdraw the Netherlands from the EU and close Dutch borders. Several of the proposals breach international law and the Dutch constitution.
This election is the first of many taking place in 2017, which are impacted by the rise of right-wing populism.
On March 11, for International Women's Day and the upcoming Netherlands election, Women’s March Amsterdam will hold the Women’s March for a United Netherlands, where up to 10,000 people are expected to march together “for the Netherlands we love by flooding the streets of Amsterdam to show we're united in our diversity and no one will drive us apart.”
In a further show of our solidarity, Women’s March London will be placing tulips at the Netherlands Embassy on Friday March 10 and ask you to please do the same throughout Friday.
We encourage you to attach personal messages of support, reminding the Netherlands that people all over the World are watching and asking them to #VoteAgainstHate.
Please let Women's March Amsterdam know you stand with them and encourage the people of the Netherlands to get out to the polls and vote against the politics of division.
LET'S SHOW THE WORLD OUR MOVEMENT IS NOT STOPPING.
